On October 11, China National Electric Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNEEC) and Sichuan Sunsync Photovoltaic Technology Co. (Sunsync) signed a PC contract for the phase I battery project in the Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ), Azerbaijan, marking their joint entry into overseas markets.

Located in AFEZ, the project is phase I of a three-stage master plan financed and developed by the owner. As a key vehicle for Azerbaijan to promote energy transition and attract foreign investment, it is the first new energy venture to break ground in the economic zone since the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Azerbaijan, creating a model for future cooperation. Against the backdrop of accelerating energy transition across Central Asia, most of the project’s output will be destined for international markets, highlighting the complementary advantages of China and Azerbaijan and establishing a benchmark for local authorities to introduce high-value-added industries and promote green development.

In recent years, supported by China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation (Sinosure) and coordinated by China National Machinery Industry Corporation (Sinomach), CNEEC has explored a new model of internationalizing domestic industrial capital. Since the first contact in May, the company has cooperated with the owner to advance the preliminary work. They completed the field survey in August and eventually signed the contract. Azerbaijan’s deputy prime minister and China’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lu Mei successively met with teams of both parties to listen to project reports and provide their support and guidance.

The project is set to begin construction in October. Throughout the execution phase, the company will further strengthen its full-chain management capabilities to ensure high-quality, efficient delivery, leveraging CNEEC’s strengths to advance China’s new-energy manufacturing globally and support industrial development in overseas markets.
